We don't think that single speaker solution is the best choice for best results. In effect, top quality loudspeakers made by AudioNautes are 2-3 way (horn loaded). However, we think that if it is very well made, such a loudspeaker is perfect for small rooms; in effect, AudioNautes presented the complete loudspeakers named S-1.1 and S-5. So, all the more reason, we think that the single speaker solution is perfect for a top quality KIT, for all DIYers and music lovers in general! This kit is so simple that every music lover can enjoy it!

This kit is named Flat Box and is different from any other kit on the market by far. The cabinet alone can show this! But the Flat box is even more. It's easy, for example, to improve it with little mods. AudioNautes gives suggestions for this purpose. We think that a KIT must be a way for experimenting and improve customer's knowledge. Tha's why we are presenting a kit suggesting improvements. The basic design is the loudspeaker S-1.1. So... feel free to try and try! But remember to enjoy MUSIC, that's all we are working for!

We did not choose among all the double cone speakers on the market (even if very expensive) because we think that they are not balanced. We chose a top quality single cone speaker. At the beginning, the Flat Box was born with Diatone P-610MB. Since now it's becoming rare and rare, we chose another speaker. Thanks to Mr. Kiyoaki Imai of Audio Tekne Co. of Japan, we chose the Pioneer PE-16M, very similar to the Diatone in almost every aspect.

 

HOW TO USE IT

The Flat Box was born to let the customer learn about music and tuning. The rear two openings can be modified by the customer, to learn about the results. In fact, the S-1.1 loudspeaker has one adjustable rear opening, to tune the loudspeaker depending on the listening room. At the same way, you can adjust the openings of the Flat Box. And you can also try to use different openings instead of equal ones.

As written above, the Flat Box is not a common kit. Not only one can have fun and learn building it, but one can use it as definitive loudspeakers pair in a high level system. One school kit and one great pair of loudspeaker at the same time. Since the cabinet is ready and there is no crossover, this is a very easy to build kit.

This is a balanced loudspeaker, so you must use balanced amps and source for best results.

Please do not use standard stands for the Flat Box. Common stands are not solid enough and do not absorb vibrations. AudioNautes suggests the use of very heavy stands, just like bricks or cement blocks. If you can, we suggest the carbon blocks under the cabinets (please see the AudioTekne web site).
